Warsaw, 21-05-2021. A digital meeting took place on the 18th of May between the Ministry of Climate and Environment and representatives from the renewables and sustainable technology sectors to discuss clean innovation in Poland. The Secretary of State Ireneusz Zyska was accompanied by his colleagues from the Ministry of Climate and Environment Marcin Ścigan who is Director of the Renewable Energy Department and Miłosz Węgrzyn who is an Energy Advisor. The delegates representing the renewable energy and clean technology sectors were:

• Mr. Roch Drozdowski-Strehl (Head of Delegation), Director General of the Institut Photovoltaique d’Île-de-France (IPVF), Vice-President of the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Photovoltaics (ETIP PV)
• Mrs. Małgorzata Walczak-Gomuła, President of ASM – Market Research and Analysis Centre
• Prof. Krzysztof Biernat, Łukasiewicz Research Network – Automotive Industry InstituteDuring the meeting, various aspects of innovation in renewable energy and the use of information were discussed, focusing on ways to modernise and decarbonise Poland’s energy sector. Secretary of State Ireneusz Zyska welcomed the opportunity to discuss ways to boost clean innovation with the delegatesRoch Drozdowski-Strehl of IPVF said : “We have entered a historic decade of accelerated deployment and innovation in clean technologies. Cooperation amongst European partners, and between the private and public sectors, is crucial to sustainably reshore renewable energy supply chains to Europe.”

  Małgorzata Walczak-Gomuła of ASM – Market Research and Analysis Centre pointed out that “increasing funding for technological research and innovation must come alongside a stronger emphasis on social innovation. Often technological solutions are available but there is a mismatch with the business models or the structure of the incentives that are meant to bring them to the market”.

  Prof Krzysztof Biernat of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Automotive Industry Institute highlighted that “national Policies on energy and innovation are moving in the right direction, but more needs to be done to ensure that Poland can modernise its energy system while making a fair transition and meeting its climate responsibilities, including promotion of innovative technological investments taking into account measurable, and positive climate effects and creation of national strategic research areas in this field ”

  The delegates added that the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan known as SET PLAN is a useful European-level forum and needs to be strengthened.
